21, 2010 - At 0750 hours, units with the 2nd Battalion
were alerted to the Unit block of 46th Place, NE for a
building. E27 responded second due as units arrived on
side Alpha of a two story apartment building with smoke
showing from the second floor. A fire was found in a
second floor apartment and quickly knocked down. Two
children and one adult were transported for smoke
inhalation. The Box was held to one and one a short time

13, 2010 - At 2240 hours, units with the 3rd Battalion
were alerted to the 2700 block of Minnesota Avenue, SE for
a house. E27 responded fourth due as units arrived on side
Alpha of a two story end of the row with fire showing on
side Delta. E27 arrived picked up E32's split lay and also
supplied E15. The Deanwood crew backed up E32 checking the
basement and for extension. The fire was quickly knocked
down and the Box was scaled back a short time later. Pics

10, 2010 - At 2041 hours, E27 was alerted to a Motor
Vehicle Accident at Minnesota Avenue and Benning Road, NE.
E27 arrived and found a three car accident with two
trapped, bringing the Rescue Assignment. While awaiting
other units, E27 placed a hand line in-service and began
patient care. Upon arrival of additional units, T17
stabilized the vehicles while RS1 went to work removing
the driver's doors of the two vehicles. A total of three
patients were transported to local hospital for further
evaluation and one patient signed a refusal. |

6, 2010 - At 0103 hours, units with the 2nd Battalion were
alerted to the 6200 block of Clay Street, NE for smoke.
E27 responded second due as units arrived to find a two
story row with smoke showing on the second floor. E27
arrived in the rear finding the same, cleared the
basement, and backed up E30 with a fire on the first
floor. T17 located an unconscious elderly female on the
second floor and quickly removed her to awaiting EMS. The
patient was transported to a local hospital for further
evaluation. The Box was scaled back a short time later

31, 2010 - At 0153 hours, units with the 2nd Battalion
were alerted to the 1100 block of 50th Place, NE for a
house w/ people trapped. E27 responded first due and
arrived on side Alpha of a one story single family with
fire showing on side Charlie. The crew advanced into the
house and FF Kelley
located an unconscious 11 year old male in the back
bedroom and quickly removed him. The patient was handed
over to awaiting EMS and transported to a nearby hospital
for further evaluation. The fire was quickly brought under
control and the Box was held to

25, 2010 - At 1430 hours, a storm blew into the DC Area.
While E27 was on a run, a small child was picked up off of
her feet by the strong gusts right in front of the crew.
This was the beginning of a very busy tour. Later, as the
whole city was busy, E27 ran third due to the 1400 of
Hopkins Street, NW for a gas leak. After running trees
down on houses, wires, etc. E27 ended the tour with 28
runs. |

5, 2010 - At 2139 hours, units with the 1st Battalion were
alerted to the 100 block of 36th Street, NE for an
apartment. E27 responded first due and arrived on side
Alpha of a two story apartment house with smoke showing
from the roof. A small fire was found in a closet on the
second floor with extension to the walls and cockloft. The
Truck Companies opened up and the fire was quickly
contained. The Box was held to two and two in 30 minutes. |

23, 2010 - At 1952 hours, units with the 2nd Battalion
were alerted to the 5500 block of Foote Street, NE for an
apartment. E27 responded first due and arrived on side
Alpha of a three story apartment building with smoke
showing from the third floor. E27 found a small fire in a
vacant apartment on the third floor and quickly
extinguished the same. The Box was held to one and two in
20 minutes. |

21, 2010 - At 0212 hours, units with the 2nd Battalion
were alerted to the 4600 block of Central Avenue, NE for a
house. E27 responded second due and arrived on side
Charlie of a one and a half story single family with smoke
showing. E27 cleared the basement and went to the first
floor to back up E30. The Box was held with one and two in

20, 2010 - At 0042 hours, units with the 1st Battalion
were alerted to the 3200 block of Fort Lincoln Drive, NE
for an apartment. E27(RE-62) responded fourth due as units
arrived on side Alpha of a ten story apartment building
with nothing showing. E27 arrived and completed E17's
water supply and proceeded to the tenth floor where a
small fire was found in an apartment and quickly
extinguished. E27 checked exposures, finding no extension.
The Box was held with one and two in 20 minutes. |

7, 2010 - On Monday, Retired Fire Chief Jefferson Lewis
passed away. Chief Lewis was appointed to Engine Company
27 on November 1, 1947 and Retired on December 31, 1979.

3, 2010 - At 0532 hours, a citizen knocked on the
firehouse door to alert Deanwood Members that a house was
on fire down the street. E27 called for the Box as we
opened the Engine door and could see smoke. E27 pulled on
side Bravo of a two and half story building, formerly Miss
Charlotte's Crabcakes and could see fire coming from a
first floor window. While attempting to make entry, it was
found that several layers of plywood were on the windows
and doors. T17 arrived and assisted with making entry and
E27 pushed through the first floor, knocking down all
fire. As E30 went to check the second floor, it was
noticed that the stairs were burned out. At this time,
heavy fire started to vent out of the windows of the
second floor and the roof. With no way to get to the
second floor, firefighters were backed out and a defensive
attack was made on the second floor and roof. After the
bulk of the fire was knocked down, firefighters made entry
and hit the remaining hot spots. E27 and T17 operated for
three hours assisting investigators. |

28, 2010 - At 2049 hours, units with the 2nd Battalion
were alerted to East Capitol Street and 52nd Street, SE
for a motor vehicle accident with persons trapped. E27
arrived and found a single vehicle accident with one into
a tree and two people trapped. RS3 arrived and removed the
two patients and turned them over to awaiting EMS. The
patients were transported to local trauma centers for further
evaluation. |

18, 2010 - At 0736 hours, units with the 2nd Battalion
were alerted to I295 and Eastern Avenue for a motor
vehicle accident with persons trapped. E27 arrived at I295
and Quarles Street, NE to find a single vehicle into the
jersey barrier. One patient was found inside of the
vehicle and was packaged and handed over to awaiting EMS.
The accident was found to be the result of a suspect
fleeing from PGPD for carjacking. A short time later, the
suspect wrecked further down I295 in Southeast. |

8, 2010 - At 0136 hours, E27 was clearing an apartment on
51st St, SE when we were alerted first due to an apartment
fire in the 4000 block of Minnesota Ave, NE. E27 arrived
on side Alpha of a three story apartment building with
residence exiting the building. After entry, a kitchen
fire was located in a second floor apartment with no
extension. The Box was held to one and one a short time

Members attend Tournament |
| May
6, 2010 - On Thursday, Deanwood members made the trip to
Chesapeake Beach to attend the annual Emerald Society
Fishing Tournament. Although the crew didn't catch many
fish, we had a good time hanging out as always. |

24, 2010 - At 1512 hours, E27 was alerted to the 4000
block of Minnesota Avenue, NE for a motor vehicle
accident. E27 responded and arrived to find a two vehicle
accident with one into a fence and four patients. Three
patients were packaged and transported by A27 and A13. One
patient signed a refusal. |

19, 2010 - At 1858 hours, E27 was alerted second due to
the 5800 block of Southern Avenue, SE for a house. First
due companies arrived on side Charlie of a two story
middle of the row with fire showing. E27 arrived on side
Alpha with the same and stretched the 1-1/2 to the second
floor to assist with extinguishing a couple rooms and the
cockloft. Deanwood members operated for just over an hour. |

15, 2010 - At 1326 hours, E27 was alerted for a Medical
Box Alarm in the 700 block of Pennsylvania Avenue, NW. Yes
NW, this is not a typo. E27 made the trip all the way
across town as we were told that we were the closest
Paramedic. Just as we confirmed this with OUC, M31 was
dispatched to the 2500 block of Martin Luther King Avenue,
SE for paramedical emergency. E27 arrived downtown and met
up with E3 and A1 to find a patient with trouble
breathing. E27's Paramedic transported with A1 to the
hospital. |

Members attend Benefit |
| March
13, 2010 - On Saturday, Deanwood members made the trip to
North Beach Volunteer Fire Department for a St Patty's Day
Dinner and Dance to support one of our own. The benefit
was for Lt O'Conner of E8-1 who lost his home in a fire
recently. |

7, 2010 - At 0512 hours, E27 was alerted to the unit block
of Kenilworth Avenue, NE for an auto. E27 arrived to find
the same next to an apartment building. The Demons made
quick work of the auto before it could extend on the
building. |
